Arran and Sand Dunes

This original painting is inspired by the sand dunes along the Ayrshire coast, capturing a view of Isle of Arran from Ayr Beach. It forms part of an ongoing series I began last year, exploring the shifting beauty and atmosphere of these coastal landscapes.

Many of these scenes come from time spent walking the dunes with my dog, Angel, where the views stretch out towards Arran and Greenan Castle. It’s a place I return to for a sense of calm and quiet inspiration. Whether it’s the soft movement of long grasses in a warm summer breeze or their wild energy in changing weather, I’m drawn to the mood and emotion of the landscape as much as its form.

Through this piece, I’ve tried to capture a fleeting moment — a feeling of being there — so it can be brought into your own home and enjoyed in a personal space.
